Born in 1977 to a poet and an artist, Maya Selway grew up in a distinctly creative atmosphere; she was also influenced early on by her jeweller grandmother. In 1997, Maya attended Camberwell College of Art where she gained a BA in Silversmithing and Metalwork. Following this, she worked as a freelance prop maker with the Royal Opera House and the National Theatre. In 2004, she attended Bishopsland and completed a year’s silversmithing and jewellery residency before spending two further years in Sheffield at the Yorkshire Art Space. In 2008 she set up her first workshop at Cockpit Arts in London.
