Anu Penttinen is a Finnish
glass designer and artisan. She studied
in the UK, Australia and Finland, and has received a Bachelor of Art from the
University of Art and Design, Helsinki in 1999, a BA with First Class Honours
from Australian National University, Canberra School of Art Glass Workshop in
2000, and a Masters of Art from the University of Art and Design, Helsinki in
2002.Penttinen was a founding
member of Lasikomppania Glass Cooperative, Design District Cooperative and the
Nuutajarvi Gallery Cooperative. She
founded her company Nounou Design in Helsinki in 2003. Nounou Design is now
located in the Nuutajarvi Glass Village, where glass has been made since
1793. The company concentrates on
producing small series of decorative glass designs by hand. The Nounou Design Shop and Showroom operates
in the Helsinki Design District.She has collaborated with
Finnish and International design houses and glass manufacturers. Penttinen created: the Birds by Penttinen
collection for Iittala, launched in 2008; the Sukat Makkaralla (Socks rolled down) glassware collection for
Marimekko, launched in 2010; Again for
Iittala, she created the Vitriini series of glass boxes; and has contributed
designs for bags and home textiles for Mum’s.
